Darlings, I’ve taken a new lover this summer. Oh for goodness sakes…. Pick your jaws up off the floor and take a listen! Whether day or night, my lover is always there for me, adding a touch of elegance to any event. My lover is alluring in an easy, breezy, comfortable way. My lover doesn’t care if I’ve indulged in too much guacamole and chips. My lover is very forgiving that way. Who, you ask, is this fabulous man?
Well my dears, it’s not a man at all… It’s the Caftan!
Darlings, 1010 Park Place has been home to me for a year now! I’m so honored and grateful to the lovely Brenda Coffee for allowing this old girl to put pen to paper and express my thoughts on style and trends. As a little “thank you” to Brenda, I thought it would be fun to channel one of her favorite style icons, Rene Russo’s character, Catherine Banning, from the movie The Thomas Crown Affair.
Enough can’t be said about style icons. Goodness knows, I have several in my fashion bag of tricks. Whether it’s a fabulous movie character or a real live fashionista, a style icon can be a springboard of inspiration just when you need it.
Darlings, it’s the question everyone’s been asking all week. “Did you watch the Royal Wedding?” Oh it was pure magic! Your’s truly was left off the guest list. My arrival would have caused quite a stir and rendered the attendees gobsmacked! You see, back in the mid 70’s, Prince Charles and I had quite a romp in Windsor Castle.
Let’s just say, Camilla must be a very happy woman.
Darlings, I’ve officially waved goodbye and said “good riddance” to the cold weather and welcomed—with a toast of chardonnay—the arrival of spring. Oh the places to go and the things to do! I’ve packed up my heavy dark knits and down coats, and I’m ready to take a light, bright approach to spring. Continue Reading
Darlings, did you watch the Oscar’s this year? I never miss, but I must tell you… I only watch it for the fashion. Those swoon worthy dresses! While I don’t have any red carpet events right now, there will be wedding invitations, galas and garden parties in the coming months. Of course with every invitation comes the anxiety about what to wear.
I think it’s high time we took a new approach to dressing up.
With spring just around the corner, this fashionista is more than ready to pack up the wool sweaters, down-filled jackets, and yes, the Cuddl Duds. Just thinking about warmer weather makes me want to open the champagne and celebrate!
Truthfully the task of transitioning my closets from a winter wardrobe to spring throws me into a fashion panic.
Darlings, I don’t know about you, but, when I come home from a cold winter day, I want to wrap myself in warmth and relax with the things that make me happy. At home I’m not so worried about being fashionably stylish. I want to feel contentment and comfort. I want to sit by a crackling fire, enjoy a warm beverage and let the day’s craziness drift away.
The Danish even have a word for just that feeling: Hygge, pronounced “Hue-gah,” the art of creating joy and coziness in life’s everyday moments.
Darlings, By the time I’ve iced the last gingerbread cookie, wrapped the last gift and signed my last greeting card, I’m cooked! I have what’s called “holiday fatigue.” It’s that exhausted feeling you get this time of year when even Bing Crosby’s “Mele Kalikimaka” can’t revive you. Of course I still have holiday parties to attend, and the last thing I want to do is figure out what I’m going to wear!
I have a solution that will have you feeling comfy and looking sensational.
Well my fellow fashionistas, I am bound and determined not to let the holiday frenzy get to me or my wardrobe. I want an easy look that’s put together and fab. A look that goes from running around town to lunch with the girls.
Lately we’ve been talking a lot about the way American women dress as opposed to our European counterparts. European women have always dressed in a way that’s luxe without being too precious, but effortlessly chic. It got me thinking… What is an American style that’s uniquely ours?
I always think of Ralph Lauren when I think of American style.
Darlings! What a glorious fall we’re having! My favorite time of year! How I adore the trees changing color, that chill in the air, the crunch of leaves under your feet, apple cider donuts and a pumpkin spice something or other for sale in every shop. Hmmm, is there a pumpkin spice wine? I must look into that.
Well my fashionable friends, let’s talk about some of the best trends we’re seeing this fall.
